Why Do Hemorrhoids Hurt
Harvard Health reports that hemorrhoids can be a recurrent and painful intrusions. While internal hemorrhoids are often associated with little to no symptoms, external hemorrhoids are frequently reported to be accompanied by pain.
According to Colorectal Surgeon and the Chief of Surgery at Mercy Suburban Hopsital in East Norriton, PA, Christopher J. Bruce, M.D., external hemorrhoids have a rich nerve supply.
It is the rich pain-sensing nerve presence that causes the painful swelling associated with hemorrhoids.

Bump up the fiber. It softens your stools and makes them move through your body more easily. Youâll find it in beans, whole-grain breads and cereals, and fresh fruits and veggies. You may also want to try a supplement if you canât get enough from foods. Add fiber slowly to help avoid gas and bloating.
Drink lots of fluids. Stay well hydrated to keep stools soft so theyâre easier to pass. Water is the best choice. Drink plenty throughout the day. Prune juice is a natural laxative and can help you go.
Exercise regularly. Even brisk walking 20-30 minutes every day can help keep you from getting stopped up.
Breathe! Keep the air moving in and out when youâre working hard. Itâs common to hold your breath as youâre pushing, pulling, or making an effort â and that can lead to hemorrhoid pain and bleeding.
Use a pillow. Sit on a cushion instead of a hard surface. It will ease swelling for any hemorrhoids you have. It may also help prevent new ones from forming.
Take breaks. If you must sit for a long time, get up every hour and move around for at least 5 minutes.

Could The Itchiness Be A Sign Of Anything Else
If you mainly experience itchiness at night when in bed, then it could be associated with a threadworm infection. Whilst this is more common in children, as they do seem to get their sticky fingers into places that an adult would stay clear of, it isnt unheard of for adults to get this too.
The way to spot threadworm is by looking at your stool before you flush. If you notice what looks like pieces of white thread in the stool, then that may well be threadworm. A quick trip to the pharmacy will sort this out with over the counter medicine. Its important to treat everyone in the household to make sure there has been no cross contamination.
It is very unusual for an itchy bum to be related to anything more serious like cancer, but if it does persist then it is best to get examined by your GP. Other causes of irritation include inflammatory dermatoses such as eczema, psoriasis or lichen planus, for example, which might require onward referral to a dermatologist for an opinion and treatment advice.

Hemorrhoid Medication: When Why And Which Ones To Use
A number of OTC creams, ointments, and pads that contain hydrocortisone or witch hazel are available to help relieve pain, swelling, and itching caused by hemorrhoids. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, doctors recommend using over-the-counter products for a week. If symptoms persist beyond a week, follow up with your doctor.
Creams and suppositories containing hydrocortisone can cause the skin to weaken and thin, so they should not be used for more than a week. If any of these creams cause a rash or dry skin around the area, contact your healthcare provider.

Do Hemorrhoids Itch After A Bowel Movements
Because bowel movements and the wiping that accompanies it can irritate external hemorrhoids, having a bowel movement can also trigger itching.
We recommend cleansing after each bowel movement. Using a medicated wipe infused with aloe or witch hazel will help cool and soothe, and can ease the problem.
The Shockingly Simple Fix
The solution often surprises many people, which is splash some water on it.
Rather than cleaning yourself with flushable wipes, use a bidet a water spray which can you install on your toilet, or even a portable, spray bottle version or a plastic sitz bath which is available at any drug store. Pat dry after that and do it gently.
Whatever method you choose, rinse the area with water to clean it, then pat dry, Dr. Zutshi says. Dont use soap and water, unless its very mild like Ivory® or Dove® the chemicals in soap dry the area too. Just plain water works fine.
My patients tell me that after they started doing this, their itching and discomfort went away, she says.
You can also use a barrier cream, like Desitin® or Calmoseptine® , when experiencing discomfort and then later, as needed, to calm the area.
So the moral of the story: Dont overclean yourself with chemicals. Let water do the work.

My colorectal surgeon told my that with my grade IV he would not recommend the staple because of relapse. I was not going to go through the surgery twice, so I opted for total excision. The excision, went every well because the surgeon was NOT aggressive in his approach. If you remove too much rectal mucosa that is when stitcture/stenosis and other complications occur. I am fortunate I had a great surgeon.
Im glad to hear that this went really well. Can you tell me which surgeon you went with? I hope thats not too nosy but Id like to know if thats an option I could go with. Thanks!

Crh Oregan System: May Help Reduce Symptoms For External Hemorrhoids
External hemorrhoids are located in an area that contains nerve endings, which means removing them can be an extremely painful process. Because external hemorrhoids are often mistaken for internal hemorrhoids, it is important to see a doctor to receive a proper diagnosis. Nevertheless, it is very rare for someone to have external hemorrhoids without any internal disease. In most cases, many of the symptoms typically associated with external hemorrhoids actually result from internal hemorrhoids. This means treating the internal disease can relieve your symptoms.
While the CRH ORegan System does not treat external hemorrhoids, many patients will see a reduction in external hemorrhoid swelling after undergoing internal banding.
Because external hemorrhoids typically indicate an internal hemorrhoid problem, the CRH ORegan System can painlessly resolve the symptoms of individuals with external hemorrhoids in 90% of cases by banding internal hemorrhoids. This procedure has only a 1% complication rate, involving some pain and bleeding. After addressing the core internal hemorrhoid issue, external hemorrhoid symptoms normally subside.
What Is The Reason Behind Hemorrhoids Being Itchy
Let us address the question of why this happens first. Hemorrhoids or piles can either be an iternal problem or an external one. People face the problem of itching, irritation, and burning especially when the hemorrhoid is external in nature.
When you sleep or sit for some time at a particular spot this problem arises. Well of course you sleep in your bed and that is for a minimum of eight hours. When you do that moisture starts to settle making your external hemorrhoids extremely itchy.
This is the reason you go through such uneasiness and discomfort at night.

Warm And Cold Compress
Warm and cold compress involve application of warm and cold compress near the hemorrhoid lumps. You should first apply warm compress on the hemorrhoid for about 20 minutes and then replace it with the cold compress. This method can reduce itchiness in your hemorrhoids.
Why Exactly Do Hemorrhoids Itch
Several causes contribute to uncomfortable itching often worse at night.
- Inflammation:Inflammation is the biological root of severe itching with hemorrhoids. An area that is inflamed can be filled with a lot of fluid and white blood cells. When this happens, the body tries to adjust and natural stretching occurs which causes the itchiness.
- Rubbing: Excess rubbing can cause itchiness, and rubbing of the area cant always be avoided. This can happen while simply walking. Sometimes even underwear can cause abrasions.
- Passing Feces: The simple strain of passing feces can make already developing or inflamed hemorrhoids worse. In turn, this leads to more inflammation and increased itchiness.
- Natural Production of Mucus: In the case of internal hemorrhoids, the body naturally produces more mucus than normal. When the mucus exits the body, it can dry out on the outer skin causing an uncomfortable, itchy sensation.
Of course, there can be other reasons that cause your hemorrhoids to itch, and for severe hemorrhoids, it is best to see a doctor to learn more about the condition and what the best method of treatment is.
