When you go to see a doctor for enlarged hemorrhoids, he or she will look at your anus to see if its inflamed and whether the hemorrhoids come out of the anus when you push or if theyre already outside. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, there are a number of examinations your doctor may choose to perform in order to make a diagnosis. Doctors typically do a digital rectal examination first, which involves gently inserting a finger into the anus with gloves and lubricant. The doctor will feel the inside of the anal canal using circular movements, which allows him to examine the sphincter muscles and the texture of the membranes lining the anus.

If your doctor believes that you do have enlarged hemorrhoids, she will most likely perform a proctoscopy next. This involves inserting a short tube with a light and lens on it that exams the membranes lining the rectum. The doctor is looking to see if there are enlarged hemorrhoids and how big they are. People tend to fear the pain and discomfort that come with these procedures, but they usually dont hurt and do help your doctor make suggestions about how to get rid of hemorrhoids.

Most of the patients suffering from hemorrhoids have their symptoms alleviated through diet therapy, fiber supplements, hemorrhoid cream and medical treatments, such as sclerotherapy, rubber band ligation and infrared coagulation.

The feelings of pain and discomfort can even last hours after a difficult bowel movement.

What Are The Causes Of External Hemorrhoids

The most common cause of hemorrhoids is repeated straining while having a bowel movement. This is often caused by severe cases of constipation or diarrhea. Straining gets in the way of blood flow into and out of the area. This results in the pooling of blood and enlargement of the vessels in that area.

Pregnant women may also be at an increased risk of hemorrhoids because of the pressure that the uterus places on these veins.

If you have a chronic anal fissure, you may need to see a rectal surgeon. The first option may be to inject your anal sphincter with a medication called Botox to relax the muscle and prevent spasms. This treatment is 50 to 80 percent successful. If all else fails, a surgical procedure may be needed to cut the anal sphincter muscle, called a sphincterotomy. Although this procedure is rarely needed, it is successful over 90 percent of the time.

Taking A Sitz Bath In The Bathtub

If youre taking a sitz bath in the bathtub, the first step is to clean the tub.

  • Clean the tub by mixing 2 tablespoons of bleach with 1/2 gallon of water. Scrub the bathtub and rinse thoroughly.
  • Next, fill the tub with 3 to 4 inches of water. The water should be warm, but not hot enough to cause burns or discomfort. You can test the temperature of the water by placing a drop or two on your wrist. When youve found a comfortable temperature, add any substances your doctor recommended to the bath.
  • Now, step into the tub and soak your perineum for 15 to 20 minutes. Bend your knees or, if possible, dangle your legs over the sides of the tub to keep them out of the water altogether.
  • When you get out of the bathtub, gently pat yourself dry with a clean cotton towel. Dont rub or scrub the perineum, as this may cause pain and irritation.
  • Finish by rinsing the bathtub thoroughly.
  • A plastic sitz bath kit fits over the toilet. Rinse the bath kit with clean water before using it. Then, add very warm but not hot water along with any medications or solutions recommended by your doctor.

  • Place the sitz bath into the open toilet.
  • Test it by trying to move it from side to side to ensure it will stay in place and wont shift.
  • You can pour warm water in before you sit down, or you can use the plastic bag and tubing to fill the tub with water after youve sat down. The water should be deep enough so that it covers your perineum.
  • What To Do If You Have A Fissure

First, a doctor will want to rule out other conditions with similar symptoms, as well as abscesses, infections, inflamed skin tags or hemorrhoids or other more serious concerns, Dr. Zutshi says.

Next, in conjunction with the lifestyle changes outlined above, treatment for a fissure usually starts conservatively with simple at-home fixes and conservative medical therapy.

At home: A sitz bath soaking in warm, but not hot, water several times a day works wonders for many patients. The pain many people feel before or right after a bowel movement comes from muscle spasms brought on by the anal fissure. Warm baths help those muscles relax, which in turn helps the fissure heal over time.

Medical management: Medical therapy targets the muscles, too. A doctor may offer a specific ointment that relaxes the anal muscles so the fissure can heal, minus the spasms. A numbing agent such as lidocaine is an option, too. However, it may add to the burning and irritation.

Surgical options: When conservative treatments dont work, there are two simple outpatient surgical options. One is a Botox injection into the anal muscles. This basically paralyzes the muscle to prevent spasms and allow the fissure to heal. The other option is sphincterotomy, a strategic cut to the muscle that also relieves spasms. Both come with a healing time of around two weeks.

Use A Sitz Bath Daily To Help Relieve Pain And To Clean The Anus

There are several scientifically proven natural pile ...

A Sitz Bath is just a fancy name for a plastic bowl that you set on top of your toilet. You will fill the bowl with warm water and some epsom salt if you prefer. The purpose of a Sitz Bath is to help promote blood flow to the anus which will aid in helping to heal your anal fissure faster, as well as keeping the area clean and free from infection.

Sitz Baths are also commonly used to treat and relieve pain associated with Hemorrhoids. You should try and do at least 2-3 Sitz Baths daily.

To use your Sitz Bath you will fill the bowl and the drip pouch with water the is very warm, but too hot that it will burn your skin. After filling up the bowl measure in about a 1/4 cup of epsom salt and stir it in until it dissolves.

You will then just sit on the Sitz Bath bowl just as if you were going to sit to take a bowel movement. I would try and stay sitting for at least 10-15 minutes to get the most benefit from the bath. Once done you want to make sure that you towel dry your rear end well as you do not want any moisture back there afterwards.

Again, I have to stress the importance of doing your Sitz Baths multiple times each and every day while your body is healing.

This product works. After suffering with Hemorrhoids for years, I was finally considering surgery to correct the problem. I bought this product after researching the internet, and decided to try it as a last ditch effort before scheduling surgery.

Within two weeks things were almost completely healed up, and by the third week, I can finally say that I am free of all Hemorrhoids for the first time in 20 years.

I wish the price for this stuff was cheaper, but honestly..compared to the cost of surgery, its a great value.

New Protocol To Treat Anal Fissures

New protocol to treat anal fissures offers excellent results, without cutting the muscle.

Sometimes the most difficult thing about a problem is overcoming the fear of facing it. When people have painful conditions of the anus, they tend to be embarrassed to talk about that part of the body and even less enthusiastic about inviting a doctor to take a look. But anal pain is best treated sooner than later, and an earlier diagnosis can improve patients’ outcomes in the long run.

Reflecting their commitment to doing everything possible to ease patients’ suffering, the surgeons in the Division of Colorectal Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia have recently developed a new protocol to treat anal fissures, a painful condition frequently misdiagnosed as hemorrhoids. What’s more, the new protocol offers superb results without cutting the anal sphincter muscle.

How To Soften Your Stools & Avoid Constipation – Help For Anal Fissures

Hemorrhoids are swollen blood veins that can be found in the anal canal and they can be very irritating. They look like inflamed sacs that can be either inside or outside of the anal canal and that depends on the type of hemorrhoids someone has.

They tend to grow very fast if the patient tolerates long-term constipation. There are other factors at play as well including pregnancy and heavy weight lifting. These inflamed sacs block the anal canal from releasing the stools smoothly.

Oftentimes, there are bleeding sessions in the anal canal due to extreme strains caused by these hemorrhoids. This can be a very irritating experience for the patients, and sometimes it gets so painful that they cant even sit.We know this much that hemorrhoids cause the inside of the anus to become dry and itchy.

Is Hemorrhoid Fissure Surgery Worth It

Hemorrhoid fissures can be so painful and disrupt your life so much that you may need surgery.

One of the best surgeries for hemorrhoid fissures is called lateral internal sphincterotomy.

The goal of this surgery is to divide the internal layer to promote healing of anal fissures.

This surgery is invasive and can require a lot of pre and post-operative maintenance, like watching your diet, taking and not taking certain medications, and the recovery time can be anywhere from two to three weeks.

If your fissures do not heal on their own within a few days or weeks, or you are experiencing rectal bleeding more often than not, talk to your doctor to see if a hemorrhoid fissure surgery is worth it for you.
