Patients With Compounding Conditions

Pregnant patients often develop hemorrhoids as intra-abdominal pressure increases, particularly during the third trimester.36 Also, acute episodes of pain and bleeding are common in pregnant women with preexisting hemorrhoids.

Immunosuppressed patients and those on anticoagulant therapy are more prone to serious complications such as sepsis and profuse bleeding. Patients with portal hypertension are prone to have anorectal varices that may resemble hemorrhoids. Anorectal varices can be treated with vascular ligation, whereas sclerotherapy is the preferred method for hemorrhoids in this group, in whom coagulopathy is common.

Basic Information Of Enrolled Patients

A total of 274 patients were enrolled, including 149 patients treated with modified RBL and 125 treated with conventional RBL. Fifty-six patients missed their clinic follow-up, so we contacted them by phone and inquired about their postoperative recovery. There were no missed visits, and the longest follow-up was 12 months. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in age, sex, BMI, hemorrhoid grade, history of hemorrhoid surgery, constipation, NO. of ligated sites, main symptoms, cause of treatment, use of anticoagulants, HDSS score and SHS score at baseline . What Do External Hemorrhoids Look Like

In a meta-analysis of 18 prospective randomized trials performed by MacRae and McLeod, band ligation was the most effective among office-based procedures, with a lower recurrence rate. Several internal hemorrhoidal treatment modalities were compared, and it was concluded that band ligation was superior to sclerotherapy, which demonstrated good short-term but poor long-term benefits. With cryosurgery, patient satisfaction was less, and local complications were more frequent.
