Quick Cure For Hemorrhoids Pain

Keeping Yourself Comfortable During The Day

6 Hemorrhoid Fixes for PAIN & BLEEDING – Complete Physiotherapy Guide to HOME REMEDY Hemorrhoids

Though hemorrhoid symptoms vary depending on the location and type, if you have external hemorrhoids, a thrombosed hemorrhoid , or a prolapsed internal hemorrhoid , simple things like sitting at your desk at work can cause extreme discomfort. For immediate pain relief, we recommend oral pain relievers or topical treatments such as an over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream or witch hazel. We may also prescribe a numbing cream to ease your pain.

To reduce irritation, you should wear clean, cotton underwear and loose-fitted clothing to help keep the area dry. Moisture may lead to itching and irritation. If you find it too difficult to sit in your office chair, you may want to invest in a donut cushion to ease the pressure on your backside.

At home, soak in a warm sitz bath for 1015 minutes a few times a day to relieve itching, muscle spasms, and pain. You can find a sitz bath tub at your local pharmacy that fits over your toilet to make the process easier.

What Creams Can Be Used

Anti-inflammatory creams and pastes containing ingredients like zinc and panthenol, or herbal substances like witch hazel and aloe vera, are often recommended for the treatment of hemorrhoids. These aim to relieve skin irritations and itching.

Some doctors also prescribe ointments to numb the skin locally, for example with the drug lidocaine. Steroid creams are sometimes used to reduce the inflammation too. These should only be used for a limited amount of time.

Hemorrhoid Medication: When Why And Which Ones To Use

A number of OTC creams, ointments, and pads that contain hydrocortisone or witch hazel are available to help relieve pain, swelling, and itching caused by hemorrhoids. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, doctors recommend using over-the-counter products for a week. If symptoms persist beyond a week, follow up with your doctor.

Creams and suppositories containing hydrocortisone can cause the skin to weaken and thin, so they should not be used for more than a week. If any of these creams cause a rash or dry skin around the area, contact your healthcare provider.

A fiber supplement, such as Metamucil , or a stool softener, such as Citrucel , can help prevent constipation.

Avoid laxatives, which can lead to diarrhea and worsen hemorrhoid symptoms.

Are There Natural Treatments For Hemorrhoids

First, some very good news: Neither type of hemorrhoid is dangerous, and severe complications that require medical care are rare. Symptoms often can be relieved by trying a few natural and self-care treatments.

  • Draw a sitz bath. To relieve itching and irritation, fill a tub with three to four inches of warm water and sit in it with your knees bent for about 10 to 15 minutes. Gently pat yourself dry with a towel, but dont rub the area.
  • Take fiber supplements. These draw water into your stool and make it easier to pass, helping to reduce hemorrhoid bleeding and inflammation. A psyllium husk fiber supplement, like Metamucil or a generic version, is a good choice. If psyllium causes gas or bloating, try a supplement with wheat dextrin or methylcellulose .
  • Ease discomfort. Apply over-the-counter products that shrink the inflamed tissue and relieve itching. Try pads infused with witch hazel , or soothing creams that contain lidocaine, hydrocortisone, or phenylephrine .

You can also take steps to prevent flare-ups.

If You’re Pregnant Lie On Your Left Side

Chinese Herbal Hemorrhoid

Pregnant women are particularly prone to hemorrhoids, in part because the uterus sits directly on the blood vessels that drain the hemorrhoidal veins, says Lewis R. Townsend, MD. A special hemorrhoid remedy if you are pregnant is to lie on your left side for about 20 minutes every 4 to 6 hours, he says. This helps decrease pressure on the main vein, draining the lower half of the body.

If at-home treatments for hemorrhoids dont help you, you may need a medical procedure. There are several different procedures that your provider can do in the office. These procedures use different techniques to cause scar tissue to form in the hemorrhoids. This cuts off the blood supply, which usually shrinks the hemorrhoids. In severe cases, you may need surgery.

When To Seek Medical Help

  • 1Know when to call the doctor. Home treatments will heal most hemorrhoids. However, there may be times when helping yourself is not sufficient, and you need medical attention. Pay close attention to symptoms to determine whether you should seek medical help. Look for the following:
  • Duration of symptoms: Bleeding and pain typically resolve after two to three days. Call your doctor if these symptoms last longer than one week.
  • Timing of symptoms: Bleeding from hemorrhoids usually only occurs with bowel movements. If you are experiencing rectal bleeding at any other time, call your doctor.
  • Changes in symptoms: Changes in your symptoms can mean your condition is worsening. It can also mean that something else is wrong. If the color of your hemorrhoidal bleeding changes from bright to dark red, call your doctor as soon as possible.
  • Severity of symptoms: If youve been applying home treatments, your hemorrhoids should improve. If your symptoms worsen, or become severe, call your doctor.
  • When To Seek Medical Attention For Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids usually clear up on their own or with at-home care however, in rare cases, they require medical attention.

If you experience chronic hemorrhoid symptoms and bleed frequently with bowel movements or hemorrhoid irritation, this can increase the risk of anemia.

Internal hemorrhoids, which may not cause some of the common hemorrhoid symptoms, can have the blood supply cut off and lead to extreme pain.

If you have been trying to manage hemorrhoid symptoms at home for more than two weeks, see a medical provider for an evaluation.

If you notice rectal bleeding for the first time, with or without other symptoms of hemorrhoids, speak to a medical provider.

    Apply A Hemorrhoid Cream

Hemorrhoid creams are used very frequently to treat hemorrhoids, because they have vasoconstriction, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

These types of cream need to be prescribed by a doctor and applied directly on the hemorrhoids, with a soft massage 2 – 3 times a day, while treatment lasts.

    Ease Pain And Itching

    Hemorrhoid Ointment,Hemorrhoids Suppositories,Hemorrhoids Gel, Natural ...

Take warm baths. Soak in a bathtub filled with a few inches of warm water for about 15 minutes at a time. Do it two or three times a day and after every bowel movement. If you want to wash the area, too, use unscented soap and don’t scrub.

Pat gently afterward to dry. You can even use a blow dryer on a cool setting if that feels better.

There are also special “sitz baths” you can put directly on your toilet seat to make soaking easier.

Rub on relief. Over-the-counter wipes or creams with witch hazel can soothe pain and itch with no side effects. Don’t use one with hydrocortisone for more than a week unless your doctor says it’s OK.

Ice it. Put a small cold pack on the trouble spot several times a day. It can dull pain and bring down the swelling for a little while.

Consider painkillers. An over-the-counter medicine, like acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen, could help with soreness.

Don’t scratch. You could damage the skin and make the irritation — and the itching — worse.

Choose cotton. Wear loose, soft underwear. It keeps the area aired out and stops moisture from building up, which can bother your hemorrhoids.

    Conventional Treatment For Hemorrhoids

If your doctor believes that you do have enlarged hemorrhoids, she will most likely perform a proctoscopy next. This involves inserting a short tube with a light and lens on it that exams the membranes lining the rectum. The doctor is looking to see if there are enlarged hemorrhoids and how big they are. People tend to fear the pain and discomfort that come with these procedures, but they usually dont hurt and do help your doctor make suggestions about how to get rid of hemorrhoids.

Most of the patients suffering from hemorrhoids have their symptoms alleviated through diet therapy, fiber supplements, hemorrhoid cream and medical treatments, such as sclerotherapy, rubber band ligation and infrared coagulation.

    1. Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a procedure that involves injecting a chemical into a vein to destroy it. The sclerosant is used to damage the innermost lining of the vessel, which results in a clot that blocks the blood circulation in the vein. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue and fades away.

In 2010, a group of 338 Japanese medical institutions reported good results for sclerotherapy using aluminum potassium sulfate and tannic acid . Upon injecting ALTA into grade 2, 3 and 4 hemorrhoids, of 3,519 patients, 98 percent reported positive effects within 28 days. The recurrence rate after two years was 18 percent, and complications included pyrexia, low blood pressure, perineal pain and rectal ulcers, but those were mild.

    2. Rubber Band Ligation

    Treating And Preventing Hemorrhoids

Dr. Hsu says the best first step is to visit a drugstore to get some creams or suppositories that soothe inflamed rectal veins and speed healing. Look for treatments containing cortisone or lidocaine, which are especially helpful.

Stool softeners also help reduce straining and constipation, but be sure to avoid laxatives. Laxatives can cause diarrhea and further irritate swollen veins, which you definitely dont want, Dr. Hsu says. If your hemorrhoids are especially itchy or you feel a burning sensation, use baby wipes instead of toilet paper and apply witch hazel to the area with a cotton swab.

For more aggressive hemorrhoids, use a sitz bath to relieve itching, irritation and pain. Fill a bathtub with a few inches of warm water and sit in the tub, with knees bent, for 15 to 20 minutes. If getting in a bathtub isnt an option, purchase a plastic sitz bath kit, available at any drugstore, that fits over the toilet. For optimal relief, use a sitz bath several times per day.

Bump up the fiber. It softens your stools and makes them move through your body more easily. Youll find it in beans, whole-grain breads and cereals, and fresh fruits and veggies. You may also want to try a supplement if you cant get enough from foods. Add fiber slowly to help avoid gas and bloating.

Drink lots of fluids. Stay well hydrated to keep stools soft so theyre easier to pass. Water is the best choice. Drink plenty throughout the day. Prune juice is a natural laxative and can help you go.

Exercise regularly. Even brisk walking 20-30 minutes every day can help keep you from getting stopped up.

Breathe! Keep the air moving in and out when youre working hard. Its common to hold your breath as youre pushing, pulling, or making an effort and that can lead to hemorrhoid pain and bleeding.

Use a pillow. Sit on a cushion instead of a hard surface. It will ease swelling for any hemorrhoids you have. It may also help prevent new ones from forming.

Taking A Sitz Bath Using A Kit

    Herbal Hemorrhoid

A plastic sitz bath kit fits over the toilet. Many kits come with cleaning instructions and solutions. If your kit doesnt come with those, clean and rinse all materials thoroughly before use.

Once clean, add warm water with any medications or solutions recommended by your doctor. Avoid using water hot enough to burn the skin.

  • Place the sitz bath into the open toilet.
  • Test it by trying to move it from side to side to ensure it will stay in place and wont shift.
  • You can pour warm water in before you sit down, or you can use the plastic bag and tubing to fill the tub with water after youve sat down. The water should be deep enough so that it covers your perineum.
  • Soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Using the plastic bag, you can add warm water as the original water cools. Most sitz baths have a vent that prevents water from overflowing. The water conveniently overflows into the toilet and can be flushed.
  • When youre finished, stand up and pat the area dry with a clean cotton towel. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area when you do this.
  • Get the sitz bath ready for its next use by cleaning it thoroughly.
  • Although there are no guidelines for when to replace your sitz bath, always check it for signs of cracking or weakened areas before and after use.
