Procedures To Get Rid Of Hemorrhoids

What Are The Causes Of External Hemorrhoids

Is There a Way to Get Rid of Hemorrhoids for Good?

The most common cause of hemorrhoids is repeated straining while having a bowel movement. This is often caused by severe cases of constipation or diarrhea. Straining gets in the way of blood flow into and out of the area. This results in the pooling of blood and enlargement of the vessels in that area.

Pregnant women may also be at an increased risk of hemorrhoids because of the pressure that the uterus places on these veins.

Simple Steps To Help Prevent Hemorrhoids16

If you are pregnant or genetically predisposed to developing symptomatic hemorrhoids, they may be impossible to prevent, but the following tips may nonetheless lower your risk of experiencing them:

  • Consume well-balanced meals and snacks, ensuring high-fibre content and adequate fluid intake.
  • Avoid sitting or standing for long periods. Take short walks whenever you can.
  • Do not delay bowel movements when you feel the urge.

Breathe freely and avoid prolonged straining during bowel movements and other activities that could involve straining, such as lifting heavy objects.

How To Prevent Hemorrhoids And Future Flare Ups

No matter which remedy or treatment you choose to address your hemorrhoids, its important to think about prevention so that any hemorrhoids youve treated dont flare up again.

Diet is the key place to start, as a fiber-rich diet will keep your stools loose and easy to pass without pressure. Hydration plays a part in regular and easy bowel movements as well. Try to avoid foods that can cause constipation like cheese and fatty meats.

Its always a good idea to seek the advice of a medical professional when youre struggling with hemorrhoids, but you definitely want to see a doctor when home remedies and treatments arent working. Patients With Compounding Conditions

Pregnant patients often develop hemorrhoids as intra-abdominal pressure increases, particularly during the third trimester.36 Also, acute episodes of pain and bleeding are common in pregnant women with preexisting hemorrhoids.

Immunosuppressed patients and those on anticoagulant therapy are more prone to serious complications such as sepsis and profuse bleeding. Thus, conservative management should be used in these patients as well. Injection sclerotherapy may be beneficial, as it has been shown to decrease bleeding. Of note, patients on immunosuppressive agents should stop taking them and start taking an antibiotic, and patients on anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications should be instructed to stop them one week before any intervention.

Crohns disease. Some patients with Crohns disease may have hemorrhoids, though this is rare. Eglinton et al,37 in a series of 715 patients with Crohns disease, reported that 190 had symptomatic perianal disease. Of these, only 3 had hemorrhoids. Treatment is always conservative and directed at the Crohns disease rather than the hemorrhoids.

Patients with portal hypertension are prone to have anorectal varices that may resemble hemorrhoids. Anorectal varices can be treated with vascular ligation, whereas sclerotherapy is the preferred method for hemorrhoids in this group, in whom coagulopathy is common.

How Long Do Hemorrhoids Last

How long hemorrhoids last will vary from person to person.

In general, small hemorrhoids can go away on their own in a few days. Larger hemorrhoids, particularly ones that cause a lot of pain, swelling, and itchiness, cant go away on their own and may require treatment from a doctor to heal. Pregnant patients may find that hemorrhoids only go away after they give birth.

Its possible for hemorrhoids to return after theyve been treated. A gastroenterologist can help recommend solutions if you find youre struggling with hemorrhoids that dont go away or keep coming back.

Conservative Treatments For Hemorrhoidal Disease

How to Get Rid of Hemorrhoids Without SURGERY I 10 Ways

Studies have shown that more than 80 percent of patients will require no surgical intervention for hemorrhoidal disease if conservative measures are followed appropriately, which is why we begin there.

1. Typically, the first step is to measure fiber intake.

Does the patient get 20 to 30 grams of fiber per day? Fiber is needed to bind the stool, bulk it up, and soften it. Foods rich in fiber include avocados, beans, fruits , and vegetables . If the patient does not get enough fiber, it is important to consider dietary changes and add a supplement. Not all fiber supplements work the same, so it is important try different brands or types. For example, Metamucil gets mixed with a full glass of water and requires eight additional glasses of water a day. If the patient is not a regular water drinker, fiber gummies are a good alternative. The goal is for a patient to have a soft, easy-to-pass stool . Patients can start with one fiber gummy a day and work up to five safely to achieve the desired outcome. Benefiber, another viable option, can be mixed with other foods such as mashed potatoes or even soup.

As mentioned before, fiber without enough water may cause constipation, so consider the patients medical history and fluid volume. Fiber supplements can also cause a patient to bloat and have increased gas, but these symptoms tend to subside after a week of therapy while the body adjusts to it.

Why Is It Done

Hemorrhoids are normally treated byhome remedies, such as high-fiber diet, cold compresses, and daily sitz baths. If these dont help, your doctor might recommend an over-the-counter topical cream that contains hydrocortisone or witch hazel.

However, hemorrhoids occasionally dont respond to home remedies or other treatment measures. They can then become increasingly itchy and painful. Some hemorrhoids can also bleed, leading to more discomfort. These types of hemorrhoids usually respond well to hemorrhoid banding.

If you have a family history of colon cancer, your doctor might want to thoroughly examine your colon before suggesting hemorrhoid banding. You may also need to get regular colonoscopies.

How Are Hemorrhoids Treated

Your healthcare provider will create a care plan for you based on:

  • Your age, overall health, and past health
  • How serious your case is
  • Whether you have internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids, or both
  • How well you handle certain medicines, treatments, or therapies
  • If your condition is expected to get worse
  • What you would like to do

The main goal of treatment is to reduce your symptoms. This may be done by:

  • Sitting in plain, warm water in a bathtub several times a day
  • Using ice packs to reduce swelling
  • Using hemorrhoid creams or medicines inserted into your rectum

Your healthcare provider may also suggest that you add more fiber and fluids to your diet to help soften your stools. Having softer stools means you dont have to strain during bowel movements. This reduces the pressure on your hemorrhoids.

Adding more fiber to your diet means eating more:

Hemorrhoid Medication: When Why And Which Ones To Use

A number of OTC creams, ointments, and pads that contain hydrocortisone or witch hazel are available to help relieve pain, swelling, and itching caused by hemorrhoids. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, doctors recommend using over-the-counter products for a week. If symptoms persist beyond a week, follow up with your doctor.

Creams and suppositories containing hydrocortisone can cause the skin to weaken and thin, so they should not be used for more than a week. If any of these creams cause a rash or dry skin around the area, contact your healthcare provider.

A fiber supplement, such as psyllium , or a stool softener, such as methylcellulose , can help prevent constipation.

Avoid laxatives, which can lead to diarrhea and worsen hemorrhoid symptoms.

Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy For Prolapsing Hemorrhoids

Stapled hemorrhoidectomy is the newest addition to the armamentarium of surgical internal hemorrhoid procedures. It has several aliases, including Longo’s procedure, the procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids , stapled circumferential mucosectomy, and circular stapler hemorrhoidopexy.

Stapling also disrupts hemorrhoid blood supply. Studies have suggested that stapled hemorrhoidectomy results in less postoperative pain and shorter recovery compared with conventional surgery, but a higher rate of recurrence. Frequency of complications is similar to that following standard hemorrhoidectomy.

Medical Procedures To Shrink Hemorrhoids

If medications and remedies dont alleviate your discomfort and need further help, plenty of safe and fast procedures are available. Many methods only require one quick office visit. The risk of hemorrhoids returning is very low. And almost all of the procedures are minimally invasive, relatively painless, and produce lasting results.

Procedures include:

  • Traditional : The hemorrhoids are removed by an instrument, usually a scalpel. This is a standard procedure that easily keeps hemorrhoids from coming back.
  • Rubber Banding Ligation: Common and proven highly effective, the external hemorrhoids are banded near the base to cut off blood flow, allowing the unwanted skin tag to fall off naturally.
  • Infrared Therapy: This method uses an infrared laser to create fibrous tissue, preventing blood flow. This procedure will shrink hemorrhoids, and the skin tags will then fall right off.
  • Electrotherapy: Much like the traditional method, electrotherapy works by using a heated element, like a cautery pencil to remove the troublesome issue safely.
  • Cryotherapy: After a local anesthetic, the doctor will freeze and remove the hemorrhoid. This method may leave you with a small amount of discomfort and requires about two weeks of recovery.
  • Stapling: This method uses circular titanium staples and shares a similar goal with the same desired results as banding, infrared, and cryotherapy.

How To Get Rid Of Internal Hemorrhoids

Internal hemorrhoids are on the inside lining of the rectum and are not visibly seen by the eye unless they are enlarged and then they can be felt too. Internal hemorrhoids are usually painless and get noticed when causing rectal bleeding with a bowel movement.

The easiest and fastest way to get rid of internal hemorrhoids is changing your lifestyle and eating habits, using stool softeners if you are constipated, using the squatting method and not straining on the toilet or sit too long.

If you are struggling with internal hemorrhoids and its making your life miserable, imagine one day when you wake up and the hemorrhoids are gone. Wouldnt that be the best feeling in the world. Have a look at this and see how it can help you in an easy and risk-free way.

Some complex cases of hemorrhoids may need surgery to treat them, but most cases can be cured by following only some home procedures, including:

Make sure you watch the video too about internal hemorrhoids!

Whats The Procedure Like

Hemorrhoidectomy takes place in a hospital setting. Its usually an outpatient procedure, but in some cases, it may require an overnight stay.

Pre-op instructions will advise you when to stop eating, which is usually 6 to 8 hours before surgery. You wont be able to drive immediately, so be sure to arrange transportation home.

An IV will be inserted into your arm for medications to prevent infection, swelling, and bleeding. Youll need either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation to help you sleep through the procedure.

In some cases, such as when theres a high risk of infection or the area is very large, the incision isnt sutured. This is called an open hemorrhoidectomy.

Another procedure, called hemorrhoidopexy, is somewhat less involved than hemorrhoidectomy. The surgeon uses staples to block blood flow, remove excess tissue, and lift hemorrhoids into a better position. This procedure comes with a greater risk of recurrence and rectal prolapse.

Once the surgeon is done, youll be moved to a recovery area where your vital signs will be monitored for several hours.

Youll be able to drink and eat soon afterward. Within a few hours, youll be able to get out of bed. Youll be discharged when youre fully awake and stable.

Recovery is different for everyone, but you should be able to return to normal activities within 1 to 2 weeks. During this time, you may have some:
