Loss of elasticity is not merely a problem of immediate failure if the band is unable to induce pressure necrosis, the hemorrhoid will become edematous and could act as a source of sepsis, pain, and/or bleeding. Who Is It For

What Is Rubber Band Ligation

Good Candidates For Hemorrhoid Banding
Rubber band ligation is a treatment method for internal hemorrhoids. It is not appropriate for external hemorrhoids.
Internal hemorrhoids are classified by degree of severity:
- Grade 1: Inside the rectum at all times
- Grade 2: Prolapsed during bowel movements but return to the rectum on their own
- Grade 3: Prolapsed during bowel movements but can be manually returned to their position inside the rectum
- Grade 4: Permanently prolapsed
Rubber band ligation is usually used on Grade 1, 2 and 3 hemorrhoids. In some cases, it may be recommended for Grade 4 hemorrhoids, but thatâs rare.
Some minor hemorrhoids may be too small to treat with ligation. There must be enough tissue to suction or grasp so that the band can be positioned around the base of the hemorrhoid.
